For Mary, the rest of the night passed by in a blur... and not only because one of her eyes had been destroyed, but really it was difficult to process everything that was going on. It was almost as if she was floating out of her body, watching everything occur, and each event bled into the next.

In retrospect, perhaps the GM shouldn't have named the healer Merry as well, but what's done is done. After a frantic carriage ride, they arrived at Merry Pfister's cottage where she and her apprentice saw over the injured in a flurry of potions and healing spells and bandages wrapped. After they gave Mary the painkiller, a bubbling green drink that tasted like licorice, she lost all sense of orientation and soon passed out without knowing what would become of Fitz or Lance.

She had frightful dreams. Though she hadn't seen it when it happened, she saw the accident where Fitz hit the boy with the bus from all different angles--from far away, from Ftiz's as he felt the boy disappear on impact, and from the boy's eyes as the truck came barreling down on him and the agony of her body being torn apart with seismic fury. There was a rage that filled her then, a rage that sent her soaring free and twisted her soul like razor wire through her flesh. She could feel it all anchored to that field, to the scattering of her bones left profane by abandonment.

When she woke, she couldn't explain why she knew it, but she was overcome with the urge to go back to the field and search for that boy's body. And perhaps put its spirit to rest.

Distantly, she remembered her eye, and she realized she was completely blind on one side of her face. Her injured socket throbbed with a dull ache, and something smooth and round had been stuffed into in to keep its shape. It was a glass eye, not a perfect fit for her, and it felt strange in her socket. The iris was a couple shades darker brown than her own, but it would do.

And then she remembered Fitz.

Fitz's condition had improved dramatically. Merry explained that she had mended up the internal damage, stopped the spread of sepsis within the wound, and even applied a drop or two of dittany--not an easy item to find on the island, mind you--to the wound to speed the healing up. While he should rest for morning, after one more blood replenisher, he should be right as rain within a few hours.

Lance, however, was another story. Merry said that his condition was far more complicated, and he had been quarantined while the treatment was underway. And though he hadn't died, she would not elaborate further other than to say that he had taken a hard blow to the head, and the mind was a delicate thing to heal.

In any case, Merry had been correct about Fitz. Within a few hours, he was feeling significantly better. Aside from his dull ache and scratchy feeling over his new scars, he could move around and even run without pain. So, after Mary and Fitz had lunch at Merry's place and picked up whatever supplies they might need, they rented a couple bikes from town and went back down the road toward the hotel.

When they reached the area where Fitz had hit the boy, they slowed down and began to search for the body.

It was a miracle. He was alive, and hell he was just as good as before. Well almost, still some discomfort in the way of itching but he was doing better than Mary. Still though even with the glass eye she was beautiful. He was just going to make it his mission when they got back to Hogwarts to find her one that fit better so she wouldn't be uncomfortable. Riding the bike at her pace, he was a little more hesitant to find the body of this kid after everything with Lance. Had he seriously killed this kid twice?

Glancing around the bushes where they had stopped he climbed off his bike and moved it off the road so it didn't get hit. "Come on Mary, we should get off the road. Last thing we need is more injuries" Setting his bike stand up he moved over and started to help her off the road. He figured she would need some help until she was more accustomed to the being half blind aspect of her life now. Kissing the back of her hand gently he turned his gaze back to the field scanning for the body of the young boy he had killed. That was a new one.. he had killed. He was a killer. He still wasn't okay with that.

"Okay if he got hit up there.. where would his body fall?"

In the daylight, the area looked different than before. Colorful fields stretching on and on from both sides of the road, dotted with gnarled trees and bushes like clouds and spikes. Here and there, bees floated from flower to flower, collecting their pollen. Far in the distance, a thin rural road came off the main highway and somewhere further along it, sat the the apiaries and quaint farmhouses made tiny by the perspective.

As soon as Mary stepped off the bike, a shadow flickered at the left edge of her vision, where her field of vision abruptly ended due to her injury. It distracted her so much that she didn't initially answer Fitz's question.

Re: [Honeypot] A Shallow Grave

Postby Mary Parker » Wed Jul 12, 2017 10:04 am

Three thoughts went round in Mary's head from the moment she awoke. The first was Fitz. Fear had gripped every fibre of her being, until she'd seen him with her own eyes. Well...eye. That was her second thought; she couldn't see out of her left eye. The pain wasn't as bad as expected, it was more upsetting. The glass eye looked awful, and she had to fight back tears several times. The third and final thought was that they needed to find the boys body. They needed to give him a proper send off, or something. Anything.

Riding a bike was more difficult with impaired vision. It was a shock to her system for sure. When she got off her bike she froze, head whipping round to look for a shadow her injured eye had stopped her from seeing. Fitz's words didn't compute so she looked back at him with a furrowed brow. "Sorry, what?"

Looking back at Mary for a moment when she sounded distracted, Fitz gave her hand a gentle squeeze before he turned to face her. "I said where do you think the body would have fallen? I mean it was pulled under the bus. It should have stayed under the bus" He was a bit concerned about how she was doing since losing her eye, but he was going to do whatever he could to help her. He was pushing the guilt back and away, because let's be real. He was responsible for the little boy, Lance and Mary's difficulties right now and if he let that guilt in he would die probably.

"Just.. stay close" Speaking quietly to her he turned back to look at the field slowly starting to walk, pausing after a few steps to watch the ground closely.

Concern had etched itself into Fitz's forehead ever since he woke up, and Mary couldn't help seeing it every time she looked at him. If she knew him, which she was sure she did, he probably felt guilty. He probably blamed himself for everything that had happened, but it wasn't his fault! The witch decided not to mention it, taking his hand before answering the question.

"I think it would be a bit further down the road." They moved cautiously and quietly. Mary unknowingly held her breath as they went, gripping Fitz's hand tightly. She nodded when he told her to stay close, doing as instructed. There was no way she'd leave his side now, after what happened. Her boyfriend stopped and she almost walked into him, stopping just in time to look down at the ground where he was staring. "What is it?"

Looking over at her when he stopped he shook his head and sighed quietly. "I don't see how the body could have come this far. I stopped as soon as I could" Rubbing his face he cleared his throat. "Okay let's just.. keep looking" Squeezing her hand gently he began to search the field by the road again wanting to put this kid to rest.

The fields stretched before them, shadows dipping here and there where the ground hollowed to small, uneven ditches. As they kept searching, nothing turned up at first, though an eerie feeling crawled down their spines.

Another shadow flickered on the left edge of Mary's vision. This time, she could see it had the silhouette of a small child, but as soon as she tried to look at it, it vanished.

"I honestly don't think that we will find him.. we have looked practically everywhere" Running his hand over his face he glanced back at Mary and sighed quietly. "I want to, believe me.. but he should have been close to where I hit him.. we're a bit off from that now"

Mary's head whipped to the left when she saw the shadow figure of a child, gasping even though it was gone in a second. "I just saw something. This way." She tugged him deeper into the field and away from the road. There was something unsettling about the area, but that didn't matter right now. "Maybe he stumbled through the field injured."

Stumbling over his feet for a moment he followed her deeper into the field and shook his head. "I don't think he could have survived the hit" He didn't want to mention her seeing something though, he knew he hadn'tseen anything. Maybe he was just not paying attention

The grass and weeds came up to the knees as they walked deeper into the field, crunching softly underneath them with each step. For Mary, the shadow was maddeningly elusive, always staying just at the periphery of Mary's vision. About one hundred feet away, it slipped behind a gnarled tree and did not reappear.

Though no one saw the projectile, suddenly there was a loud crack! and Mary's head jerked sideways as a rock(or something that looked like a rock) from seemingly nowhere smashed against her temple and knocked her over into the grass.

Pain exploded through her skull, and for a moment her vision went completely black. She was still conscious, though. Waves of nausea rolled over her, and when she blinked through her tears and her vision returned to her in blurry lights, the world seemed to tilt and spin around her.

The grass tickled her knees as they went, the shadow flickering just out of sight and frustrating. It was when they passed a tree that the black mass finally disappeared. She was about to tell Fitz it was gone, when something hard smacked into the side of her face. Mary fell on her side in the grass, the side she'd injured the day before. The pain erupted in head, vision turning black with little white dots floating through. She was acutely aware of Fitz moving about around her, as her sight slowly returned in colourful blurs. "F- Fitz?" The ground kept moving beneath her, as she tried to sit up.

Fitz didn't know what was going on, after all he wasn't seeing what Mary was. He was just trying to get this over with so they could go back to Hogwarts or home. When Mary fell he moved around to her side quickly and knelt down. "Whoa hey.. easy. Don't sit up just yet" Reaching out to steady her he sighed quietly. "You're okay. Just take it easy" Trying to see where whatever had hit her in the head came from, he glanced around then back at her. "Maybe we should go back"

What with the ground moving beneath her like she were on a boat, Mary did as she was told and didn't sit up yet. Her hand groped blindly for one of his, finding his right hand and holding it tightly. He was right, they should go back, but Mary had the overwhelming feeling of unfinished business. This coupled with the pain in her head and side, was just too much. She started to cry, tugging Fitz roughly towards her. "I- I'm s- sorry." The witch sobbed.

"Shh hey it's okay, it's okay Mary you didn't do anything wrong" Hating to see her cry he just pulled her into his arms and he held her there trying to be some form of comfort to her until she could once again get her barrings. "You know.. we will be back home soon. When we are, we can go back to hogsmede, maybe just sit and drink a butterbeer, get some more sweets.. just have a quiet day together. You and me. It will all be okay. It will" Kissing the side of her head, his hand rubbed over her back.

Though Mary's vision blobbed with colors, those colors drained into blackness at the one spot where she had seen the shadow from the corner of her eye. A black omen that persisted at the edge of her sight, over her bad eye. It grew larger and larger, consuming the other colors in her vision, and she was filled with the terrible sense of dread that it was getting closer.

Dark clouds began to gather on the horizon, and a tremor ran through the ground underfoot. So light at first it could've been imagined, but then another stronger one passed beneath them.

A substanstial amount of comfort washed over her as Fitz held her, his words making the corner of her mouth twitch upward a little. He always knew what to say, she felt so lucky to have him through all this. Mary sniffled, leaning into the kiss on the side of her face. Unfortunately, the comfort was short lived as colour began to drain from her sight. The sky grew dark and panic began to build inside her. They needed to leave. Now. She shakily began to get up, holding Fitz for support. "Something's wr-" The ground trembled beneath them, it was only slight but she still felt it. "Did you feel that?" The ground shook again, more violently this time. "We need to leave."

Looking at her concerned for a minute when she said they needed to leave, his words were cut off before they could come out feeling the small tremor and then the bigger one. "You won't get an argument from me" Getting to his feet he reached down and picked her up knowing that her being dizzy would not make it easy to get away and started to run. He was not letting them get into the same situation again.
